If this week is any indication of what the future holds for the Philadelphia Reign, then there’s a very good chance the upcoming 2019-20 season will be ultra bright for the organization.

Last year was a historic run for the Reign who became the first pro women’s basketball team in Philadelphia since the Philadelphia Rage in 1998. Calling Chestnut Hill College’s Sorgenti Arena home and playing under Philly native, Tanae Davis-Cain (former WNBA player with the Detroit Shock and Florida State alum) the team drew headlines around Philly for pursuing their own hoop dreams. Outfitted in custom sublimated royal yellow and blue Wooter Apparel uniforms throughout their inaugural season, the Reign made a favorable impression on the game and in the community around Philadelphia.

Now the Reign get ready to return to the court by announcing they’ve joined the newly launched Women’s Professional Basketball Association (WPBA), with Wooter Apparel becoming the official jersey partner of the WPBA and its teams. Professional women’s teams like the Atlanta Monarchs, Georgia Soul, Toledo Threat, Mississippi Eagles, Detroit Queens, and the Milwaukee Aces all announced this week they would compete in the WPBA for the 2019-20 season.

“Leading the industry as a viable and competitive alternative to the WNBA with markets all across the East Coast, the WPBA is an avenue for high caliber professional athletes to continue to advance their careers or even restart their careers, while giving back to the community that supports them,” the WPBA announced this week on their social media channels.

“The WPBA is fostering economic development in various communities around the country by becoming a leading and premier avenue for women to display their talents, lead the industry in girls’ youth sports and provide quality entertainment to communities and fans. Our games are played in a professional environment featuring phenomenal women’s basketball and offers family-friendly live entertainment, VIP hospitality suites, court side seating, and fun interactive fan experiences.”

Prior to the start of last season for the Reign, the goal was to make strides in rolling out a new era in women’s basketball and women’s pro sports in Philadelphia. Go ahead and check that off of the list, as players like Brittany Hrynko — an Engineering and Sciences High graduate and former Big East player of the year at DePaul — helped lead the way for the Reign. Thanks to Wooter Apparel, the Reign embodied a professional presence about themselves each time they stepped on the floor and unknowingly set the tone for this coming season in the WPBA and the chance to expand their monarchy.
